The Fenouillères BU of the University of Aix-Marseille inaugurated the André Miquel space on April 6, 2011. This is the second research space created by the Service Commun de documentation, following the one dedicated to thewriter Gao Xingjian.
In May 2010, André Miquel, a specialist in classical Arabic language and literature, decided to donate his working library and manuscripts to the Université de Provence. It was in Aix, at the Faculté des Lettres where he was appointed professor in 1962, that his academic career began. André Miquel died on December 27, 2022, aged 93.
To welcome the André Miquel library, the Service Commun de Documentation has inaugurated a new way of integrating a donation into its collections: a constant dialogue has been established between the donated library and the host library, between researchers and librarians.
The Espace André Miquel provides researchers and advanced students with specialized documentation in the field of Arabic studies.
