May 23

The medicine library houses the legacy of Etienne Villeneuve, director of the Marseille Maternity Hospital for 40 years and the first professor of obstetrics at the Marseille Medical School. Villeneuve bequeathed his entire personal library (around 1,000 volumes) and archives, including 40 years of detailed records of deliveries at the Maternité de Marseille (1832-1874).

The talk will focus on these maternity records, studied by Carole Zakarian, and what they reveal about the role played by maternity homes in the XIXe century.

It will be followed by a visit to the current exhibition "Histoire de l'obstétrique et des sages-femmes".

Talk followed by questions - 2nd floor medicine library 12h-13h - free admission.
