"To live is to dance", said Josephine Baker. "Let us dance, and in a thousand ways," wrote Nietzsche, in his Song for Dancing.
Dance is both anchoring and elevating. It is the summit and the abyss. It is balance and imbalance. It is universal. It is in essence singular. Dance invites us to dance. It also invites us to watch. In Cuba, more than anywhere else, it is the affirmation of life.
The Bailarín project brings together black-and-white photographs of some fifty young Cuban dancers from various Cuban dance companies. These photos and the accompanying texts are featured in the eponymous book just published by Helvétius.
The bilingual book (and photographs) will be presented by its author, Marc Sagaert. He will be accompanied by the Cuban dancer who took part in the project, who will perform for the occasion.
The event will take place at Le Cube building, part of the ALLSH faculty, 29 avenue Robert Schuman, Aix-en-Provence.
